A new range of high-performance cameras has been launched by Vision Research, designed to provide exceptionally high precision at extreme speeds. The cameras are available in 1- and 4.2-megapixel models, with options for both monochrome and color.
According to the company, the high-speed Phantom KT-series stands out for its advanced sensors, which offer high accuracy and sensitivity – particularly at elevated frame rates. The BSI sensor design supports an image throughput of up to 16GP/s, maintaining maximum pixel resolution even at top speeds. They also achieve a quantum efficiency (QExFF) of 88% and an absolute sensitivity threshold (AST) of 24 electrons, making them well suited for imaging in low-light settings or with sub-microsecond exposures.
All data and performance metrics are based on the EMVA 1288 standard, which provides a consistent, scientific framework for evaluating industrial camera sensor performance. This ensures transparency and comparability across systems. The standard also specifies the test parameters and equipment used to produce EMVA 1288 reports, enabling consistent image performance assessments across different camera models.
Each camera is designed with features tailored to its purpose – enabling precise data capture for high-speed imaging and supporting R&D teams around the world.
The 1MP KT cameras offer a 190-nanosecond export-controlled fast option to further minimize motion blur for ballistics and precise high-velocity measurements. The 4.2MP KT 1640 and KT 1240 deliver improved edge clarity and wider tracking for motion analysis. These capabilities make the KT-Series ideal for applications such as industrial testing, 3D object tracking, particle image velocimetry (PIV), digital image correlation (DIC) and high-speed microscopy, among other applications. But these features don’t compromise the lightweight form factor design, keeping it compact.
KT-series cameras are compact and lightweight, weighing 3.2kg and featuring a 5x5in screen. Designed for portability and quick setup, they support CFexpress Type B, SDI and HDMI video outputs, and include a new wheel-style control interface that enables untethered operation. In addition, three programmable I/O ports enable precise control of signals for synchronization and triggering.
Models include the 1-MP KT 1610, KT 1210, and KT 810, as well as the 4.2-MP KT 1640 and KT 1240.
